All Alex+Grey silks are dyed with professional quality synthetic dyes that are made in the USA.
Where was the silk manufactured?
China and India still rule the silk trade as they have for thousands of years, and our silk is imported from China. We are currently working with manufacturers to ensure all silk we purchase is produced under good conditions for both the workers and the environment, and we have plans to move to all fair trade and certified organic silk.
What's so great about silk?
So much! Silk is one of the strongest materials found in nature and is an excellent insulator. For year-round wear, silk breathes well and is also naturally resistant to bacteria and mold...and, seriously, it just feels amazing.
What if I don't love it?
Our first priority is your happiness. If, for any reason, you are dissatisfied with your silk, please contact us within 7 days of delivery to arrange a return. Custom pieces are subject to a 25% restocking fee.
Do you ship internationally?
Absolutely! We use USPS First Class International as our carrier for international shipments.
Do you create custom pieces?
Absolutely! Custom pieces are a joy to work on! Please contact me to discuss your idea.
How are your silk scarves dyed?
All silks are dyed in Muncie, IN by Stephanie Swilley using a wide variety of techniques. Some pieces are vat dyed while the majority are created using dye applied by brush with various resists. You can see behind the scenes shots on social media at Facebook and Instagram.
Can I find your silks in a brick and mortar store?
Currently all our work is sold here at www.alexandgrey.com. However, if you are a retailer interested in carrying our products, please contact us.
How are you minimizing your environmental impact?
Being kind to our planet is a priority at Alex+Grey. We are working hard with our silk suppliers to make sure we will be sourcing from environmentally responsible manufacturers, and are working toward fair trade and certified organic silk. Office supplies are kept to a minimum and work is done electronically whenever possible. We also request that our suppliers keep their packaging as minimal as possible, and we reuse all packaging that can be reused. The large amounts of paper that are used wrapping the silks for steam-setting are reused as many times as possible, then recycled for other projects or donated to local public schools for papier-mâché, etc. If you have other ideas of what we can do, please let us know!
